A Morning in the Parkland Gardens

There's a particular kind of quiet that settles over Hotel Parkland just after sunrise before the day's first safari jeeps pull out, before breakfast trays begin to clatter in the kitchen, when the gardens belong, briefly, to the birds and the early risers among our guests. If you've never spent a morning wandering these grounds before the day gets going, it's an experience worth setting an alarm for.
The gardens themselves have matured over many years into a genuinely lush, layered space tall shade trees form a loose canopy overhead, while flowering shrubs and native plants fill the beds beneath, creating pockets of colour that shift with the seasons. Walking the winding paths in the early light, you'll notice the air itself feels different here: cooler, quieter, carrying the faint mineral scent of dew on stone and the occasional sweetness of blossoms depending on the time of year.
It doesn't take long before the birdlife makes itself known. Sauraha and the surrounding Chitwan buffer zone are home to a remarkable variety of species, and the hotel gardens are no exception bulbuls calling from the hedges, drongos darting between branches, and if you're patient and quiet, the occasional flash of a kingfisher near the water features. Bring a pair of binoculars if birdwatching interests you even casually; mornings here have a way of turning the curious into converts.
Beyond the birds, the gardens are simply a pleasant place to slow down. A bench tucked beneath a mature tree, a quiet corner away from the main pathways, a stretch of open lawn still damp with morning dew these small, unhurried moments are easy to overlook when a day is packed with safaris and excursions, but they're often what guests remember most fondly once they've returned home.
For those staying with us on a multi-night visit, we'd gently suggest building at least one unstructured morning into your itinerary a chance to walk the gardens at your own pace, sit with a coffee on the terrace, or simply watch the light change as the property wakes up around you. Chitwan's wildlife and safaris rightfully take centre stage for most visitors, but a slower morning at home base has its own quiet rewards.
As the sun climbs higher and the gardens begin filling with the sounds of the day guests chatting over breakfast, staff preparing for the morning's activities that early stillness gives way gradually to the familiar rhythm of hotel life. But for those willing to rise a little earlier, the Parkland gardens offer a version of Chitwan that's every bit as memorable as the jungle beyond the property line.
